I am the bread of life (1)

I am the bread of life (1)

"Jesus tells them: I am the bread of life. The one who comes to me will never be hungry; and the one who believes in me will never be thirsty." Jean 6:35

Seven times in the Gospel according to Jean, Jesus declares: "I am":"I, I am the bread of life" (6. 35). "I, I am the light of the world" (8:12). "I, I am the door of ewes" (10:7). "I, I am the good shepherd" (10:11). "I, I am the resurrection and the life" (11:25). "I, I am the path, and the truth and the life" (14:6). "I, I am the stock (of vineyard)" (15:5).

He also says: "before Abraham is, I am" (8:58), resuming the name "I am", under whom God had shown himself to Moses, the driver of the people of Israel (Exodus 3:14). He so asserts, in a absolute way, his divinity and his eternal existence.

The bread of life: the miracle which Jesus has just made to feed the crowd calls back that, in the desert, God had given to his people, for every day, the basket, the "bread coming from the sky" (Jean 6:31). But those who ate her died. Jesus appears then as the real bread of the sky, the bread of life, the one who gives the real life and who maintains him in those who receive her.

As our body needs bread, also the soul of the Christian needs to feed on Jesus Christ, that is to think of him, of his being on the earth, in its death, in its resurrection, in its majesty maintaining in the sky … Then, of what are occupied our thoughts? Of what do we feed them? Do we want to stay of grandchildren in the faith, or to increase and better to understand what God wants to communicate us (Éphésiens 4:14, 15)?

Let us read the Bible, to grow "in the knowledge of our Lord" (2 Pierre 3:18).
