Weakness, power

Weakness, power

"Even if [Christ] was crucified in weakness, nevertheless he lives by God's power." 2 Corinthians 13:4

"[The body of the believer] is sowed in weakness, it resuscitates in power." 1 Corinthians 15:43

The expression "in weakness" is applied in a surprising way to Jesus Christ. The Lord of glory (1 Corinthians 2:8) was "crucified in weakness". Outside, all his path on the earth was characterized by the weakness. And the cross was the extreme demonstration.

But the weakness must not be absolutely merged with some deficiency. Lord Jésus "did not know the sin"; "there is no sin in him" (2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Jean 3:5). To save the men, he really became a man on the earth; that is why he knew the fatigue, the hunger, the thirst. Finally he accepted the death on our place. His body was put in a grave. All this shows the reduction in the Son of God, who became "like the men" (Philippiens 2:7), with all the weakness which it implies. But now "he lives by God's power".

When the believers die, their body is put down in the earth as a "seed", as well as the Writing expresses him: he "is sowed in weakness". The death is the ultimate point of the human fragility. But it is said: "he is sowed". And for the faith, it contains a wait of life, because this verse so continues: "he resuscitates in power". When our Lord Jésus Christ will come, the power which resuscitated him will also act on "our body of reduction" and will return him in compliance with the body of its glory (Philippiens 3:21).

What a power that that of God! What triumphs in the face of all the weakness and the incapacity which characterize us even now!
